‘Every event is determined by its context. Someone needs to know the environment in which an incident has taken place, in order to fully perceive this incident. Therefore, a single occurrence, call it an idea, a decision, an action, takes a completely different meaning depending on the circumstances under which it happens.’ (Petros Klampanis, New York City, 2011)
Petros Klampanis is a Greek New York-based double-bassist and composer. In 2010, he commissioned us to create the concept and the creative artwork for his debut album, entitled ‘Contextual’, which was released by Greg Osby’s Inner Circle Music.
Intrigued by the constant interaction between the sound of the double-bass and of the rest of the instruments, we created visuals for the artwork that were inspired by the chameleon effect. We constructed an environment to represent the artist’s inner cosmos, which we then shot and projected onto a double-bass. We then used a special camera to photograph this mixed-media environment, which went on to become the cover art of the actual record.
This project was realised in collaboration with Athens-based graphic designer Marinos Kolokotsas.
